Week 3 - Mark Making

Gesso is a white paint mixture used to create an absorbent, textured surface that allows paint to adhere.

Gesso can be applied by various tools including brush, palette knife and sponge. It can be used to create a textured surface allowing watercolour pigment to flow into the dips and grooves. Because the paint sits on top of gesso, you can wipe it off to reveal the white gesso underneath.
